KARACHI: Young man commits suicide in Gulshan

KARACHI, June 30: A young man committed suicide in Gulshan-i- Iqbal late Sunday night.

Police said that Yahya, 22, shot himself with his pistol at his workplace in Block 13-D of Gulshan-i-Iqbal. The victim used to work at a bakery near the Rufi Corner, where he shot himself.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination, after which it was sent to the victim’s native town in Lala Moosa.

Quoting the statement of the bakery owner, police said that Yahya had been depressed, as his engagement was broken off.

ACCIDENT: An elderly man was killed in a road accident in Site area on Monday.

Police said that Saifur Rehman, 60, was knocked down by an unidentified hit and run vehicle, while he was crossing the road. The injured was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment, police added.

CRUSHED: A young woman was crushed to death under the wheels of a locomotive in Malir.

Police said Sumira, 20, was crossing railway tracks, when she came under the wheels of locomotive near Lal Masjid. The victim’s mutilated body was shifted to JPMC for autopsy.

ROBBERY: A professor of Karachi University was deprived of valuables from his campus residence.

Prof Dr Moonis Ahmer, who had been out of the city, on return to his Staff Town residence C-92 on Monday morning, found the locks broken and several electronic items missing from the house.

He said that unknown persons took away the hard disk of his computer, VCR, telephone set and clock from his house. Besides, his filing cabinets and wardrobes were disturbed, while the window panes were also found broken, Dr Ahmer added.

He claimed that before his departure, he had informed the campus secretary in writing requesting him to ensure the security of his residence.
