PESHAWAR, June 28: General Manager of Pakistan Television, Peshawar Centre, Farmanullah Jan, has stressed the need for cordial relations among the electronic and print media, saying this would provide better information and entertainment to the people.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the cultural committee of the Peshawar Press Club on Friday night, he also asked the showbiz journalists to critically analyse the PTV programmes and provide the management and producers with much-needed feedback through their reviews.
“Journalists can do a lot to bring improvement in the standard of the PTV transmissions. You should avoid negative reporting with regard to women artists and rather encourage them, because there was already a scarcity of female artists,” said Farmanullah Jan.
The journalists, TV and radio people were required to promote the local culture and traditions through their efforts, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, former GM of Peshawar Centre Tariq Saeed, who now heads PTV Lahore Centre, said it was all the more important for the PTV to get criticism from the press in order to set its house in order.
“We have only the print media through which we can improve our performance. I request the press people to keep contact with the PTV people and provide them with an input so that betterment could be brought in its performance,” said Tariq Saeed.
A large number of PTV artists, including Mumtaz Ali Shah, Javid Babar, Iftikhar Qaisar, Rashid Naz, Sarwat Ali, Alamzeb Mujahid, Nazar Mohammad, Jamshed Ali Khan and writer Khaliqdad Umeed attended the function.
Nazia Iqbal sang a few songs to welcome the new PTV GM. She was followed by Gulzar Alam, who received immense appreciation from the audience.
