KARACHI, June 17: Three persons were shot dead in Lyari on Tuesday.

Police said Bahadur Khan Niazi, 55, his son Habibullah, 31, and their security guard, Asal Khan, were going to the court of the additional district sessions judge in their Civic (AEV-366) when their vehicle was ambushed at Mehrab Essa Khan Road.

Police said that four men riding an Alto (ABU-687) and two persons riding a motorcycle shot them and escaped. Both father and son died on the spot. Their guard was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Following the ambush, unknown persons opened fire at the house of one Abdullah Khan and killed Haji Mohammad Ishaq who was present outside the house.

Ishaq was a relative of Abdullah, police added.

Town police officer Lyari, Khurram Ali, told Dawn that in 1995 Bahadur Khan had allegedly killed a man in the Civil Hospital Karachi, and a case was registered at the Eidgah police station. The person killed was a close relative of Abdullah Khan.

“On Tuesday morning both father and son were proceeding to the court where it was expected that they might be acquitted in the case that had gone weak against them” the TPO said. Police added that before a judgement could be announced in the case, the other party allegedly killed them. They said both the parties were close relatives and transporters by profession.

The suspects have been identified by the injured guard as Alam Khan, Ahmed Khan, Dilbar Khan, Saifullah and their father Abdullah Khan, police said. Police recovered the car (ABU-687) from Lyari.

Till the filing of this report an FIR in the case was not lodged.

SUICIDE: A middle-aged man committed suicide in Shah Faisal Colony on Tuesday.

Police said Syed Mansoor Shah, 45, an excise inspector, shot himself in the abdomen in his house in Shah Faisal Colony-2. He was taken to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The cause behind the suicide could not be ascertained

ARRESTS: Police, with the help of the CPLC, arrested two men for allegedly demanding forced donation from a trader in Gulberg.

Mohammad Ahsan asked the CPLC’s central chief Murad Soni to help trace the extortionists demanding Rs50,000 of him. The matter was reported to the Gulberg police station. Police and the CPLC investigated the case and arrested Mohammad Makki and Aneesul Hasan. They were booked under FIR 59/2003, under section 506-B/386/34 of the PPC. The two are from Shaikhupura, also the native town of the complainant Mohammad Ahsan.

KIDNAPPED: A youth was allegedly kidnapped by some persons in Lyari.

Police said Sohail Ahmed Abro, son of a professor at the S.M. Arts and Commerce College, was kidnapped on June 13, and a case was registered by the Baghdadi police station. Police are investigating the case.
