Hataf Sara adjudged best performer
LAHORE, June 15: Fancied bay mare Hataf Sara won the sixth race by a distance to be adjudged the best performer during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Backed at 50 to 100 on, Hataf Sara ridden by riding boy Qasim Shah defeated Beena Roy Baby by a distance in a handy position. Her victory gave Qasim Shah a well-deserved double when he had earlier sailed in long shot Muslim Badger in the opener.
This was Hataf Sara’s second success in-a-row within a fortnight.
The mare is trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar.
However, riding boy A. Aziz excelled in the saddle by bringing home three winners. He started the day with a close victory on favourite Strings in the third race and then followed it up with a fluent win on Fair Boy in the fifth race.
He later had to work hard on Love Moon to gain a photo-finish verdict over Red Rock in the seventh race. Trainer Haji Fazal Hadi sent in two winners. He first saddled chestnut colt Minnie Me in the second race and then bay colt strings in the following event.
The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards suspended jockey Majid Khan and riding boy Parvez Bhatty for two months each for their unsatisfactory riding on Free My Heart and Al trui Princess in the fifth race, respectively.
The entries of their mounts were also stopped in races for one month each.
Both had finished off the frame.
It was a good day for backers of favourites when seven well- backed horses came to the fore in a card of eight races. With the exception of Muslim Badger in the opener who was a long shot the other events were won by odds-on favourites. Minnie Me, String, Hataf Sara and Love Moon registered their second successive victories to oblige their connections.
