KARACHI: Education dept to hold contests from 20th

KARACHI, June 13: Under a revised schedule, the inter-district annual competitions, in the fields of science, culture and sports, for the students of schools and colleges, would begin on June 20, it was learnt officially.

Earlier, the events were to be start from May 19, but were postponed in view of the increasing temperature.

The Sindh Education department, the organizer of the competitions, now decided to exclude the outdoor sport events from the list of competitions, and would hold only Badminton, Squash, Basketball, Tennis and Table Tennis events, in addition to science and cultural competitions, said an official.

The initial rounds, at different districts, have already been held and teams have been selected for inter provincial competitions being held at Karachi, Sukkur and Hyderabad.

All the competitions carry three cash prizes, ranging from Rs10,000 to Rs25,000, in four categories, ie separate groups of male and female competitors, both for schools and colleges.

It was further learnt that the topic of essay/story writing competitions would be given to competitors on the day of competition only. The department has planned to spend about Rs8 million on different events scheduled to be held from June 20 to June 28.

The details of events are as follows: Karachi-Science exhibition, Squash, Basketball and Tennis.

Hyderabad-Badminton, English debate, Urdu debate and SIndhi debate.

Sukkur-Story.Essay writing, Qirat and NAat, General Quiz, Cultural Exhibition and Table Tennis.
