LTTE discusses ceasefire with Lankan govt
By Our Correspondent
COLOMBO, May 29: In what was seen as an historic meeting, a representative group of senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army and several key members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) from Trincomalee district held a brief discussion for the first time on Wednesday in Trincomalee in the presence of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), the Scandinavian ceasefire monitors.
The meeting, organized and coordinated by the SLMM focused mainly on recurrent ceasefire violations and also possible measures that could be adopted to minimize such ruptures.
During this meet, both the LTTE and the government functionaries pledged to abide by the conditions enacted in the Memorandum of Understanding. Further, it was decided by both parties that modalities to seek an agreeable solution should be sought from relevant authorities, if and when any issue not directly related to the MOU arises.
