Over 1,000 inductions in CDA soon

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 27: Capital Development Authority (CDA) will induct over 1,000 new employees before the forthcoming federal budget 2003-2004, a source told Dawn.

The source said these posts would be filled against the vacant posts and no new post would be created.

In this connection, the CDA chairman, Chaudhry Abdul Rauf, has directed all the directorates of the authority to submit their reports regarding vacant posts.

The source said out of 1,000 positions, about 800 would be inducted on the posts that fall between BPS-1 to 16, and over 200 would be appointed on higher grade posts (BPS-17 to 18).

A new recruitment criteria has been set by the Authority for the induction of new staff, he said adding “Under the new criteria, merit of education has been increased,” he said.

He said the educational criteria was set only for non- technical staff while for the technical posts previous educational criteria would be followed.

The CDA had already turned down over 40,000 applications which were submitted some six months ago for fresh recruitments on vacant posts.

The source said the applications had been rejected on the instructions of interior ministry to set up new educational criteria for fresh recruitment.

A senior official of the CDA confirmed that all previous applications had been rejected and the fresh applications would be called within next 15 days.

“If the number of applications goes high, the process of recruitment may take more time and new staff may be inducted in the next financial year. However, sanction for the new recruitment would be sought before announcement of federal budget,” the official said.

He said the policy of provincial quota would be followed in the fresh recruitment.

APP ADDS: The new graveyard of Capital Development Authority (CDA) in H-11 sector will start providing burial services for the residents in a year.

The deputy director of Municipal Administration, Chaudhry Arshad, here on Monday said the Authority was constructing an approach road, erecting fences, and sheds for offering funeral prayers at the new graveyard.

The new graveyard, spread over 80 acres, will be enough to meet the needs of the city for more than 20 years.

About 60 per cent work at the new site has been completed and, the Authority has so far allowed burial in few special cases, he added.

The old graveyard will be filled to its full capacity in the coming months. On the average about five to 10 people are buried in the graveyard everyday.

The city’s old graveyard, built in the 1960s, is spread over 50 acres. CDA has been expanding the graveyard, located in H-8 sector, for quite some time. It is cutting trees and levelling the place to make room for new plots for graves.

The civic body has also built a more than 20 feet high safety wall to keep the graveyard protected from the nearby drain.
