KARACHI: Contaminated water supply

KARACHI, May 27: Contaminated water being supplied to North Nazimabad’s block ‘T’ is causing health problems for the residents of the locality.

The people of the area had complained that the issue had been brought in the notice of the officials of the City Government’s Water and Sanitation Department many a times, but they were reluctant to act.

The people had also attributed the cause to a number of illegal connections from a 33-inch diameter pipeline. They said that sewage water was seeping into the pipeline and providing a breeding ground for various gastric ailments.

They also demanded immediate removal of the illegal connections and action against those responsible.

SHORTAGE: Various parts of the city on Tuesday either remained without water or faced acute shortage.

The water tankers had their day on Tuesday for the owners supplied a tank containing 1,200 gallons at Rs300 and a 2,400- gallon tank at Rs600.

The localities which faced acute water shortage were Gulshan- i-Iqbal’s blocks 4, 4-A, 5, 7, 10, 13-D/2, 13-D/3, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, Buffer Zone’s sector 15-A/5, North Karachi’s sectors 5-C-1, 5-C-2, 11-C-1, 11-C-2, 16-A, parts of Lyari, Old Golimar, Mithadar, Kharadar, KDA Scheme-1, parts of PECHS blocks 2, 6 and different sectors of Orangi, Baldia, Surjani Town, Shershah and SITE.

In a letter sent to the Sindh governor, the Residents Action Committee of KDA Scheme No-1, complained that despite the fact that they were facing shortage for the last one month, the concerned officials had not taken any remedial measures.

The localities which went without water under weekly holiday system included Clifton, Gizri, Delhi Colony, Punjab Colony, Shireen Jinnah Colony and Bhutta Village.
