KARACHI, May 27: Police shot dead an unidentified bandit in what they claimed was an encounter with armed men in Joharabad on Tuesday.

Police said that three armed men came to a milk shop in Block-9, F.B Area near the Sangum ground and started committing a robbery there.

Mohammad Anwar, 25, who tried to resist was shot at by them.

Meanwhile, policemen posted at a nearby police picket rushed to the shop where an exchange of fire took place.

Consequently, an unidentified bandit was shot dead, while his two accomplices escaped from the spot. Police also claimed recovery of a pistol from the dead bandit.

The injured shopkeeper was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, police added.

KILLED: A young man killed his father and injured his mother and sisters in his house in Baldia Town on Tuesday.

Police said that Sohail Husain, 24, stabbed to death his 50-year old father, Israr, and injured his mother Shabnum. He also injured his sisters Samina, Meherunisa and Tehmeena.

The injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

Police, quoting the family sources, said that Sohail Husain was suffering from mental illness. Police took the young man into custody. They said that according to the initial reports the young man attacked his family without any apparent provocation.

A duty officer of the Baldia Town police station said the case was being i investigated.

SUICIDE: A young girl committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance in Defence on Monday night.

Police said that Hurmat Bibi, 18, consumed some poisonous substance after her mother scolded her over some issue.

The young girl was shifted to the JPMC where she was admitted for treatment. She died on early Tuesday morning.

DIES: A young man died after falling from the roof of his house in Saeedabad on Tuesday.

Police said that 20-year-old Nadeem, who was an electrician, climbed up the roof of his house in Saeedabad sector 3-C, from where he fell and died on the spot.

His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for the postmortem examination, police added.

INJURED: A young girl was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident at Shahrae Faisal Tuesday.

Police said that Sakina, 11, was crossing the thoroughfare when she got hit by a speeding vehicle.

The young girl was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where she was admitted for treatment.
