KARACHI: Road washed in Landhi as part of cleanliness drive

KARACHI, May 14: The process of washing roads began in Landhi Town on Wednesday as a part of the ongoing cleanliness campaign, reminding Karachiites of the good old days when the city’s roads used to be washed by its municipality.
To begin with, the town officials washed a road, starting from the Landhi police station to Korangi No.4, with the help of the city government’s fire tenders and Landhi Town’s tankers.
Footpaths and trees were also washed during the process, giving a pleasant look to the passersby.
Town Nazim Mohammad Shahid and municipal officer Ameer Ali Unar, who supervised the washing, announced that the work pertaining to washing of different roads and pavements of the town would continue till May 24.
BANNERS: A number of banners inscribed with the words “Governor wants the city clean and green” have been displayed at different parts of the city, specially at roundabouts.
KORANGI TOWN: Nazim Abdul Jalil Khan has asked the employees of the solid waste management department to ensure that garbage was disposed of on a regular basis.
He said the officials whose performance would be judged best during the cleanliness campaign would be given prizes and those who would fail would be taken to task.
Meanwhile, the town municipal officer, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed Palejo, has cancelled the leaves of all town employees, urging them to participate in the cleanliness campaign with a missionary zeal so as to make the campaign a success.
MINISTER: Sindh minister for local government, Mohammad Hussain, has urged the officials of different town administration to expedite work by involving citizens in the ongoing cleanliness campaign.
The minister, who visited different towns to inspect the cleanliness work, asked the officials to ensure that garbage was lifted promptly and a maximum number of trees were planted to improve the city environment.
He also urged the citizens, non-governmental organizations, social welfare organizations, teachers and schools to come forward and play an active role in improving the conditions of their localities and thus make the 15-day cleanliness drive a success.
The localities visited by the minister included Malir, Saudabad, Green Town, Golden Town, Khokarapar, Mominabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Rafah-i-Aam Society, Model Colony.
Later, he planted a lignum tree in front of the Muslim Gymkhana in Saddar Town. Saddar Town Nazim Farooq Faria informed the minister that the sanitary staff, during the last three days of the cleanliness campaign, had disposed of 570 tons of garbage from different parts of the town.
