KARACHI, May 6: The Pakistan leg of the Global Youth Marathon will take place in most of the major cities of the country later this month, a national hockey official said on Tuesday.

According to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) official, the world’s biggest youth hockey event, the Global Youth Hockey Marathon, will take place on May 17 and 18 in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

The marathon is a part of the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) campaign to promote youth hockey development projects.

This second Global Youth Hockey Marathon aims to get as many young players as possible world-wide involved in events over this weekend, to put youth hockey under the spotlight.

The first marathon was held in 2001, as part of the immensely successful Year of the Youth project. An impressive 45 countries took part, with children from Australia to Zimbabwe having fun with hockey that weekend.

The theme of this year’s marathon is “Exchange” — a chance for different countries, hockey clubs or schools to share their knowledge and experience. —PPI
