Pakistan has no C-weapons: FO

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, April 30: Pakistan does not posses or produce chemical weapons, said a Director-General of the Foreign Office here on Wednesday.

Tipu Sultan told newsmen that the three-member team of inspectors of the Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) completed an inspection of the FFC-Jordan fertilizer plant on Wednesday.

The inspection, which was originally expected to be over on Tuesday, was a routine one, said Mr Sultan.

He said the inspectors were satisfied with their visit to the plant along the National Highway on the outskirts of the city, during which they inspected safety measures, the environment, and usage of import of chemicals for the plant.

The three-member team consisted of Erwin B. Caserino (Mexico), Enrique de la (Philippines), and Abdul Ghafoor Shahid (Pakistan).

The Foreign Office official dispelled the impression that the inspectors belonged to the UN.

“If they would have belonged to the UN, that would have had a different implication,” he said.
