Shujaat to lead LFO committee

ISLAMABAD, April 29: Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain will lead the 11-member government-opposition working committee on behalf of Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Tuesday.

“There will be five members each from the government and the opposition and the prime minister has nominated Chaudhry Shujaat to lead the committee,” he told APP.

The committee will take up a seven-point agenda on the LFO finalized during the government-opposition talks held at Prime Minister’s House on Friday and Monday, he said and added that it would finalize its proposals within 15 days.

Sheikh Rashid said the decision to form the committee was taken unanimously in the meetings attended by 30 representatives of around 25 parliamentary parties.

He appreciated the role of the opposition for adopting a practical approach towards the resolution of the problems and said it would pave way to restore a peaceful environment in parliament. “It is a breakthrough that will help the legislators carry out their fundamental job of legislation on to help mitigate the grievances of the general public,” he said. He expressed the hope that all the matters would be resolved amicably and democracy would be strengthened.—APP
