LAHORE, April 28: A man allegedly shot dead his second wife outside the Lahore High Court on The Mall on Monday.
City division police SP Rao Karim told this correspondent that Imran Pal of Gujranwala had contracted a second marriage with Shumaila, 30, of Sialkot some eight months ago.
Imran left his first wife with his family at Gujranwala and started living with Shumaila at Sialkot. Firdous Pal returned from abroad on learning about the second marriage of his son.
Firdous brought his son back to Gujranwala and forced him to initiate process to divorce Shumaila.
Negotiations between the two families remained inconclusive in this regard.
The SP said that Firdous sent his son in hiding and got registered an abduction case against Shumaila, her brothers Abdur Rahman and Abdul Hameed and cousins Noshaba and Adil Rahman.
An anti-terrorism court of Gujranwala granted bail to the two women only.
The other accused in the case moved the Lahore High Court and secured bail on Monday.
Both the families came out of the court and started exchanging harsh words.
Imran and his father got infuriated and allegedly shot at Shumaila and her family. Shumaila was injured while her other family members escaped unhurt. The attackers escaped in a car.
Shumaila died at the Mayo Hospital. The body was removed to the city mortuary for autopsy and a case was registered against the alleged killers.
The SP claimed that the alleged killers were chased by the police and were rounded up with their driver Javed.Further investigations are under way.
KILLS HUSBAND: A woman allegedly strangled her husband at Mehar Colony in Shalamar on Monday.
Quoting family, the police said Ramazan, 45, had suspicion that his wife Nusrat Bibi developed illicit relations with a neighbour, Arif.
The police said that the woman first beat up Ramazan and then strangled him with the help of Arif.
The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered with no arrest.
