PMAP urges opposition not to accept LFO

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, April 27: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai has urged the opposition not to compromise on the Legal Framework Order even if the president dissolves the National Assembly.

He was speaking at a public rally in Sadiq Shaheed Football Ground here on Sunday on the third death anniversary of the people killed on April 27, 2000, in police firing.

Mr Achakzai, who is also an MNA, stated that army officials had no role in politics as the people’s elected representatives had the right to govern the country without interference from the army general headquarters.

The Pakthun politician claimed that for the first time in country’s history, the Pakistan People’s Party (MMA), PML-N, politico-religious parties and others had joined hands in parliament to protect the constitutional and democratic rights of the masses, saying that this unity was a good omen for the democracy.

Mr Achakzai told participants of the rally about his suggestion to the PPP, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and PML-N leaders that they should not be afraid if President Musharraf dissolved the assemblies because in fresh polls opposition’s winning candidates in the October elections could be joint aspirants on PML-Q’s seats.

The PMAP chief stated that acceptance of the LFO would be tantamount to allowing the army general to forever rule the country, and maintained that in the Constitution army’s role was out of politics, therefore we should adhere to the statute.

Referring to the Afghanistan situation, he said the religious parties in our country had dual standards as in Afghanistan they encouraged destruction of girls schools and killing of women teachers. Whereas in Pakistan, the religious leaders not only permitted their daughters and sisters to join educational institutions, but were also sitting with women in parliament.

He also stated that the MMA leadership contested the elections in the country, but did not urge their fellow religious groups of Afghanistan to participate in the forthcoming polls there.

Mahmood Khan paying rich tributes to the people killed on April 27, stated that his party would continue the struggle to unite the divided Pakthun administrative areas of the country.

The PMAP, he said, was punished for a demand for the national rights of Pakthuns, and vowed to continue the struggle for the rights of oppressed masses.
