Miandad yet to sign contract

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, April 26: Pakistan cricket team coach Javed Miandad said on Saturday that he has neither signed a contract with the Pakistan  Cricket  Board (PCB) nor sought any demand to  the board before taking up his assignment.

Miandad, who was appointed coach in place of Richard Pybus on March 19 after the World Cup fiasco, told Dawn that he had no prior discussion with the board on the subject.

When asked what remuneration he received for his first tour with the team to Sharjah, Miandad replied in negative because the  PCB had not offered him anything.

He said that the PCB was preparing the package unilaterally in  the absence of any demand sought by him.

He explained that PCB chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia had made a promise that a better package would be offered to him and therefore he was not worried at all.

Miandad said that the training camp at Gaddafi Stadium  was running smoothly and all players were cooperating.

Asked whether he would take pacer Shoaib Akhtar with the squad, Miandad said that it was upto the national selection committee and he had no personal likes and dislikes as such.

Miandad pointed out that the real problem began with the interference  of officials in the affairs of others and he did not want to become part of such “dirty practice”.

“I want to do my job without any obstacle and at the same time I won’t poke my nose in the others’ affairs,” he said.
