MMA rejects president’s claim

RAWALPINDI, April 26: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) rejecting President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s claim of economic stability has said that making such statement he should have been realistic rather than idealistic.

This was stated by MMA leaders Liaquat Baloch, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair, Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqani, Asadullah Bhutto, Maulana Noor Mohammad, Dr Farida Ahmed, Ayesha Munawar and Samia Raheel Qazi in a joint statement on Saturday.

They deplored that the poor people were groaning with pain under the heavy utility bills and even the stock of foreign exchange was not proving to be an helpful element for them.

They claimed that during the Musharraf government the nationalized commercial banks had given non-development debts of Rs109 billion, and disclosed that the debts reached the mark of Rs174 billion at the end of Sept 30, 2002.

The MMA leaders said that only 455 people were able to get jobs in 103 projects.—PPI
