Dist govt’s pledge to farmers

SIALKOT, April 26: The local government will soon establish diesel, pesticides and fertiliser depots here in collaboration with the private sector to ensure provision of unadulterated products to the farmers.

This was stated by District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed during a chat with growers after inaugurating wheat harvesting at Mundair Syedan village on Saturday.

The Nazim hoped that the establishment of these depots would help stop the sale of adulterated diesel, pesticides and fertiliser to the farmers.

After the success of model agriculture programme at Mallo Mahay village, Daska, he said the project would be extended to Pasrur and other tehsils. Under this programme, he said the government had provided modern equipment to the growers, whose per acre yield had been raised to around 50 maunds per acre from 25 to 30 maunds.

Anjuman Kashtkaran President (Punjab) Syed Iqbal Ahmad Shah and EDO (agriculture) Rana Farman Ali were also present on the occasion.

GOVT BUILDINGS: District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid has directed the EDO (works) to chalk out a solid plan for the renovation of all government buildings and offices of union councils in Sialkot district so that funds could be allocated in the next fiscal budget.

According to a press release issued here on Saturday, the district Nazim inaugurated the newly-renovated offices and the committee room of the District Nazim secretariat. A sum of Rs1.4 million have been spent on the renovation of the dilapidated buildings.

The District Nazim also announced the construction of a housing colony for government employees to provide them modern residential facilities at cheap rates.

SI KILLED: The Sodra police SI was killed late on Friday night in an accident near Aadha village on Sialkot-Motra-Daska road.

A wagon at high speed rammed into a tractor-trolley in consequence of which SI Muhammad Iqbal died on the spot.

Motra police have registered a case.

DEATH SENTENCE: The Sialkot additional district and sessions judge handed down death on two counts along with Rs200,000 fine to a convict while acquitted three people by giving them the benefit of the doubt on Saturday.

Convict Shabbir Husain had murdered Nadeem and Karamat Ali in Partanwali village in Sialkot Sadar on June 9, 1997.

The judge acquitted Tanvir Husain, Abdul Rahman and Muhammad Usman.

DIES: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry secretary Nawaz Ahmad Toor’s mother died after protracted illness here on Saturday.

She was laid to rest in her native graveyard in the presence of scores of mourners.

SCCI president Babar Iqbal, SVP Muhammad Sadiq Goraya, vice-president Malik Muhammad Ashraf and the staff expressed their condolences.
