MULTAN, April 25: Two alleged highwaymen were killed and a police official injured in an encounter in Pakpattan here on Friday.

Reports said three highwaymen riding a jeep intercepted Sarfraz, the driver of MNA Chaudhry Nazir, on Chichawatni Road near Burewala when he was driving a car (LXG-6153). The interceptors dragged him into their vehicle while one of them took control of the driving seat of his car and fled towards Pakpattan.

They broke a police barrier at Jamal Chowk when they were signalled to stop. At this, mobile teams of Malaka Hans, Farid Nagar and Pakpattan Saddar police started chasing them but they opened fire which was retaliated.

In the crossfire, Malaka Hans SHO Naveed Zaman sustained bullet injuries while two of the bandits were killed. Their third accomplice, however, managed to escape.

The dead outlaws were identified as Maqsood and Sardar.

The injured policeman was taken to hospital.

SHOT DEAD: A man killed his wife and her lover in the Budhala Sanat area here on Friday.

Mohammed Din got infuriated when he found his wife, Sughran, sitting with his servant, Yasin. He shot them dead on the spot and escaped.

Semester system: The Bahauddin Zakariya University plans to introduce the semester system at LLB level from the next year.

According to a university spokesman, the LLB classes under the semester system would be held in the morning shift as against evening classes currently being held at the University Law College.

He said the University Law College would gradually be done away within three years and the law department established permanently at the university campus.

He said the first division would be must in graduation to get admission to the LLB semester system course. Only 50 students would be given admission initially. The medium of instruction would be English, he said.
