QUETTA, April 25: The Chairman of the National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), Mr Danyal Aziz, has underlined the need for close coordination and cooperation among all institutions of the government for the success of the district government system in the country.

He stated this during a meeting with Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousaf, here on Friday. Financial difficulties being faced by the district government system were discussed in the meeting.

He said that changes were taking place in the government system at world level and most of the countries had adopted the district government system in the world.

The NRB Chairman said that the present government and its institutions were making allout efforts for the success of the district government system in the country.

The Balochistan Chief Minister, Jam Mir Mohammad Yousaf, while speaking at the meeting said that the idea of a three-tier system democracy had been included in the Constitution. He said the importance of the new district government system couldn’t be denied as it had ensured decentralization of powers and maximum participation of the people at the lowest level.

He however said the problems of the new system needed immediate removal for its success.

He said financial powers and administrative autonomy was a good sign but it should not hinder other administrative affairs at any level.

He underlined the need for making the local government commission more effective to supervise the performance of local governments under the Local Government Ordinance to avoid financial irregularities at district level.

He said the district governments should play their role in maintaining law and order. He said the government should also advertise distribution of powers with the reference to the new system so that any confusion in this connection could be removed.

The chief minister said that the provincial government was taking all possible steps for the success of the new system and it would also make efforts to resolve the financial and other problems being faced by these governments.

The Provincial Minister for Local Government, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Shoradi, and Finance Minister Syed Ehsan Shah also attended the meeting.
