KARACHI, April 24: After winning the women’s team event title, WAPDA showed their ascendancy by taking the men’s team event final with 3-0 success over New Khan Sports Board (NKSB) in National Ranking Badminton Championship at KPT Sports Complex Hall on Wednesday.

The only encouraging point for NKSB in defeat was a fighting show by Shabbar Hussain, who extended reigning national champion Wajid Ali before going down.

Shabbar got off to a superb start and demonstrating powerful smashing, agility and nice picking, snatched the opening game 15-5.

However, southpaw Wajid was in his strides and aided by intelligent placings, swift movement and stunning smashing he came par level by pocketing the second game 15-7.

Shabbar in last ditch offered Wajid some challenge but lanky WAPDA shuttler eventually seized the match winning the decider 15-11 to make it 3-0.

Earlier in the opening singles Zafar Tasneem after a bit of resistance in the first game outclassed Chaudhry Atique 15-7, 15-1.

In the doubles the pair of Tahir Ishaq and Waqas Ahmed created a major shock when they overwhelmed current doubles champion Rizwan Rana and Umar Zeeshan 15-12, 15-12.

In the men’s singles second round Thursday national singles champion and top seed Wajid Ali, Ex-national singles champion Ali Yar Baig, Anees-ur-Rehman, Intikhab Akram Ashraf Masih, Umar Zeeshan, Chauidhry Atique and Arshad Khan advanced in the pre-quarterfinals.
