Indian shelling kills one

MUZAFFARABAD, April 24: Unprovoked Indian shelling along the Line of Control in Azad Jammu and Kashmir killed a man and injured another on Thursday, an official said.

SSP Khalid Mahmood Chauhan told Dawn that the casualties occurred in Leepa valley when shelling by Indian troops started at about 11 am without any provocation.

He said that the Indian troops used machineguns, mortars and medium artillery and targeted civilian population in various villages of the valley along the Line of Control.

The shelling left Ghulam Ahmed Lone dead in Nokot village whereas Raja Younas was wounded in Mandal village, and a house in Gheekot village was also damaged, he added.

The SSP said that villages in the Neelum valley were also shelled and fortunately no casualty was reported.
