HYDERABAD, April 24: The Nooriabad police on Tuesday apprehended four members of a law enforcement agency, who had decamped with the police mobile vehicle used for escorting federal minister for agriculture Yar Mohammad Rind.
Four policemen — a sub-inspector and three police constables — were earlier apprehended in the same case by the Gadap police.
Officials of the Nooriabad and Gadap police stations said that four unidentified persons had hijacked a police mobile vehicle (SP-5696).
They said that sub-inspector Ghulam Nohani and police constables Mohammad Miskeen, Abdul Lateef and Abdul Wahab had left their mobile vehicle unattended with the key in its ignition switch when they had gone to have their lunch in the Faraz Hotel near Mardan petrol pump.
The police officials said that they had informed the officials of the Pakistan Motorway Police about the disappearance of their vehicle when they could not find it where they had left it before going into the hotel.
The police mobile vehicle was used for escorting the federal minister for agriculture from the Karachi toll plaza when he had visited Hyderabad city before leaving for Tandojam to attend a seminar on April 22.
The senior patrolling officer (administration-II) Babar Mushtaque had sent a wireless message about the police mobile, calling for a snap check of all inward and outward bound traffic.
The Nooriabad police, during the checking of vehicles, had found the said mobile vehicle coming towards them near Hotel Midway.
They said that the mobile vehicle had overturned after the driver, Saeed Hassan, son of Khaki Jan, had lost control over the steering.
The driver, a resident of Kohat, was subsequently caught by the police.
He had made conflicting statement when he was interrogated by the police at the Nooriabad police station.
An official of the Nooriabad police station said that senior police officials were then contacted who, he said, had directed the police to hand the suspect over to the Gadap police.
According to the Gadap police, he had claimed to be an on- duty official of a law enforcement agency, adding that three others — Tariq, Ismail and Sajid — were also accompanying him but they had disembarked from the vehicle.
Officials of the Gadap police station said that two separate cases had been lodged. One of the case was lodged against Saeed Hassan, Tariq, Ismail and Sajid under Sections 381-A/427/34 PPC vide crime no 47/03 and they were handed over to the Gulzar Hijri police station for interrogation.
Subsequently, the police mobile was recovered.
The Gadap police had also arrested sub-inspectors Ghulam Nohani and the three police constables, who were accompanying him when the mobile vehicle was stolen. A separate case was registered against them under Section 155 of the Police Order 2002 (penalty for misconduct by police officers) vide crime no 48/03.
