LAHORE, April 23: Lahore Race Club (LRC) has decided to take stringent measures to clean up the club of indiscipline  and undesirables from among the horse-owners.

The LRC has issued a  proforma for registration owners to be filled by all owners and submit it before the the end of May.

The owners are required to furnish proof of their  being men of means, details of their business or occupation, income tax or  property  tax and land revenue paid by them during  the  last three  years, names and number of horses owned by them and  their nearest family members alongwith their ages.

The  owners  will have to file a declaration that  they  have read all the rules, regulations and directives of the Jockey Club Of  Pakistan  (JCP) and the LRC and give a firm assurance to abide by these and also those issued from time to time.

The need to discipline the owners has long been felt  because  of  the   intrusion of undesirable  elements  in  the  ranks  of  owners  and  the indiscipline and lawlessness caused by such elements.

There are many ghost and pseudo owners and horses owned by vested interest.

During the last three decades, the character of horse-racing has undergone a change dictated almost entirely by financial considerations. The cost of maintaining a horse and  keeping  him  in  training  has  risen  manifold  while  the stakemoney has not been raised accordingly.
