KHAIRPUR, April 23: Members of the Hydro Electric Union, Khairpur division, on Wednesday took out a procession against Hesco apathy after a lineman from the Priyaloi su-division, Mohammad Moosa Ghumro, was injured while working on an 11-KV power line at Ghari Mori.

He was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Khairpur in a critical condition, outside where the procession was taken out.

Earlier, another lineman-II of Hesco’s Luqman sub-division, Ghulam Nabi Shaikh, was beaten up by some unidentified persons the other day.

Expressing resentment against the occurrence of such incidents, an emergent meeting of the Hesco’s labour union, which was held in the Luqman sub-division, they said that senior Hesco officials had not even bothered to visit the workers who had broken their limbs in the line of the duty.

Leaders of the Hesco’s Khairpur labour union Wali Mohammad Leghari, Mohammad Urs Shaikh and Abdul Qayoom said that lineman Deedar Solangi had fallen down from an electric pole near Pir Jo Goth a few days ago.

Another lineman, Arab Pervez, of Priyaloi sub-division was injured after a short circuit had occurred while he was working in the Vesro Wahan area.

They criticised the Hesco management for not paying any compensation to their injured colleagues.

Instead, they said, the superintending engineer, Sukkur, had during his visit of Luqman sub-division office on April 7 issued threats to the lowers staff and had also removed two linemen and a metre reader for no fault of theirs.

Union leaders appealed to the chief executive of Hesco and the chairman of Wapda to build confidence among the lower staff.
