Reckless driving claims four lives: 106 vehicles hijacked in a week

KARACHI, April 20: Four persons fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Sunday.

A nine-year-old boy, Chand Masih, was run over by a speeding minibus (JE-9245) of route F-2 on Coast Guard Road in Korangi 2 1/2. He died on the spot.

An enraged crowd set this minibus and another minibus (JE-9472) of the same route on fire.

The boy was resident of Christian Town, Korangi.

A man, Shaukatullah, aged 45, died when he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle while walking across Khayaban-i-Mahafiz in Defence Housing Authority. He was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

He worked as a cook.

The police said eyewitnesses noted down the vehicle’s registration number, GS-7141. The driver sped off after the accident.

A police constable died when a speeding vehicle knocked him down on I. I. Chundrigar Road.

The police said Mohammed Iftikhar, a policeman posted at Kharadar police station, was riding his motorcycle when a speeding pickup (N-7627) collided with it.

The police claimed to have arrested the pickup driver, Faisal.

A young man died in a road accident in Surjani Town.

The police said Mohammed Yousuf, aged 35, was run over by an unknown vehicle while walking across the main road. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

KILLED: A man stabbed his sister to death in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sunday.

The police said Allahwasayo stabbed his sister Sabra Khatoon, aged 45, mother of 10 children, to death in Khameeso goth in Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s block 2.

The police arrested the suspect.

Quoting the suspect, the police said Sabra was planning for a second marriage.

CARJACKING: One hundred and six vehicles — 47 cars and 59 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen the city in the past one week, April 13-20.

According to figures provided by the police, 19 cars were hijacked and 28 others were stolen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Saddar, Clifton, North Nazimabad, Jamshed Quarters and other areas.

Twenty-seven motorcycles were hijacked. Thirty-two others were stolen.

The motorcycles were hijacked/stolen in North Karachi, Federal B Area, Liaquatabad, Saddar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Korangi, Landhi and other areas.

The police also claimed to have recovered 23 stolen cars and 24 motorcycles in the past one week.
