RAHIM YAR KHAN, April 19: An employee of a courier company died while trying to jump onto a moving train on Saturday.
The 35-year-old Mohammad Ramzan, a resident of Basti Bakshabad, Bhong, Sadiqabad, fell off the platform when he tried to ride Tezroo at the city railway station. His body was cut into two pieces.
Mr Ramzan used to carry mail between Lahore and Rahim Yar Khan. People at the railway station told this reporter that such incidents had become frequent since the gap between train and the platforms was increased to accommodate the wider bogies of the Karakoram Express.
They urged the railway authorities to restore the old structure of platforms so that further loss of human lives could be prevented.
The body of Mr Ramzan has been handed over to his family.
TAXES: Farmers are given subsidies even in countries like India whereas in Pakistan vital inputs like fertilizer and pesticides are taxed to the detriment of the farm sector.
This was stated by Ejaz Ahmad, chairman of the Pakistan Crop Protection Association, while addressing a press conference here.
According to him, prices of pesticides could come down by 20 per cent if the federal government abolishes GST.
Ahmad said the PCPA had started a campaign to train farmers on the judicious use of pesticides. For this purpose, seminars would be arranged.
Of the 350 Pakistani companies, he said 70 had joined the PCPA drive.
