PARIS, April 16: Sochaux booked a place in the French League Cup final after overcoming second division Metz 3-2 in a see-saw semi-final on Tuesday.
The two sides were all square at 2-2 after 90 minutes, with top flight outfit Sochaux’s Sylvain Monsoreau getting the decider in the ninth minute of extra time.
Metz took the lead inside the first half an hour but Sochaux’s Pierre-Alain Frau, celebrating his 23rd birthday, equalised a minute after the interval.
Frau put Sochaux ahead with his second but Metz, down a man after Manuel Adebayor received a second yellow, ensured it went to extra time with Mamadou Niang’s 86th minute header.
Sochaux, who have been living dangerously in the competition, having needed penalties to beat Lyon and extra time to squeeze past Lille in previous rounds, wrapped up a thrilling encounter thanks to Monsoreau.
