KARACHI, April 16: The suspects who killed a city lawyer were on Wednesday remanded to police custody for seven days.
Behram Khan, a former private security guard, and his accomplice, Pir Buksh Junejo, SI in charge of the Shah Faisal town intelligence branch, were produced before Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the anti-terrorism court No. 3.
The judge, while giving the two suspects in police custody, ordered their production on April 23.
Ashraf Ali Rajput, 35, was shot dead in the courtroom of Sindh High Court on Tuesday, and the police arrested Behram and Pir Buksh and recovered an official motorbike (Police-12).
Police said on Tuesday Behram came to the courtroom of Justice Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery and targeted an under-trial prisoner, Mantab Ali Shah, appearing before the court in connection with his bail in a murder case. The bullets however, hit Ashraf and he died.
After the incident, Behram went out of the building where Junejo was waiting for him on an official motorbike. They sped away and were arrested by the police guards at the gate of the Sindh High Court.
During interrogation, Behram told the police that he was ashamed of killing an innocent man as his target was Pir Mantab Ali Shah, and not the lawyer.
“I will definitely kill the Pir, if I ever got a chance”, a police official quoted him as saying.
Behram told the police that he was upset by his uncle’s death and he believed that Ali Mardan Shah was allegedly killed by Mantab Shah.
The police said further investigations were in progress and they believed the murder mystery of Ghous Buksh Talpur on April 4 in Darakhshan would also be solved as it was also linked with the row of two groups over the possession of Lowari Sharif shrine in Badin.
