Symonds shines again for Australia ‘A’
ADELAIDE, April 15: South Africa ‘A’ and Australia ‘A’ played out a draw on Tuesday on the final day of their three-day cricket match at Adelaide Oval.
The South Africans finished with 78 for three in their second innings in a brief attempt at a tough victory target before the captains agreed to call off the match early.
The visitors had needed 173 from 22 overs to win.
When stumps were drawn they were still 95 runs short, requiring to score at almost 11 an over.
Pinch-hitting opener Morne Van Wyk made a valiant attempt to chase the runs, scoring 43 from 35 balls, with two huge sixes, before he was dismissed by paceman Stuart Clark.
Clark finished with 2-29 from seven overs, after failing to take a wicket in the first innings.
In Australia ‘A’s second innings earlier on the final day, World Cup all-rounder Andrew Symonds belted 88 to complete a fine double — he had slammed 78 in the first innings.
The series, which Australia leads 2-1, now moves to Perth, Western Australia, for a three-day game and a one-day match.
