KARACHI: Police put on high alert

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 14: The police were put on high alert in the city on Monday after the judgment by an anti-terrorism court in the US consulate carbomb case.

Senior police officers were in field to monitor the law and order situation. Policemen and rangers personnel in large numbers were deployed in important roads and streets to meet any eventuality.

After being on red alert for four hours, the police were placed on high alert during which police officials kept an eye on mischief-makers, the police sources said.

The head of the city’s operational police, Tariq Jamil, told Dawn that security for diplomatic missions had been increased. Security for high officials of the Sindh government was beefed up. Extra security was also provided to franchise restaurants and other foreign business interests.

He said police patrolling had been increased and snap check of cars, motorcycles and other vehicles was being carried out.

The police are also providing security to judges and prosecutors of the US consulate carbomb case. Security has also been beefed up at government buildings, the Central Prison and the building housing anti-terrorism courts.
