QUETTA, April 13: Unknown armed men shot dead the cousin of Governor of Kandahar in the border town of Chaman while his two bodyguards were seriously injured on Sunday, police said.

Mohammad Qasim Jan, cousin of Kandahar Governor Gul Aga, was going to a bazaar along with his two bodyguards when near a petrol pump at Boghara road, Chaman, two unidentified armed men riding a motorbike opened indiscriminate fire on his vehicle.

Mohammad Qasim and his two bodyguards received serious injuries and were rushed to the Chaman Civil Hospital where Qasim died before getting any medical aid. He had received seven bullets in different parts of his body.

Toor Jan and Mohammad Ewaz, the two bodyguards of Qasim, were shifted to Kandahar after medical treatment in the Chaman Civil Hospital. The condition of both the bodyguards was stated to be serious.

The body of Qasim Jan was handed over to Afghan officials in Spin Boldak. The Governor of Kandahar has a house in Chaman. His brothers and other family members frequently visit Chaman along with their armed guards.

The injured bodyguards told newsmen in Chaman that he could identify the Taliban attackers. After the incident some officers of the Afghan army tried to cross into Pakistan but the Pakistani border security officials did not allow them to enter Pakistan area.
