LAHORE, April 13: The Sadar Division police have recovered 73kg of hashish worth Rs2.1 million from the possession of two drug-peddlers of Peshawar, SP (Sadar) Raja Riffat Mukhtar told a press conference here on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off that smugglers were bringing hashish to Phoolnagar in Kasur district in a car (IDL-0671), a raiding team was constituted comprising officials of Chung Circle, who traced the car in Raiwind area and arrested the alleged culprits, identified as Zafar Ali and Moshan Khan. Two pistols were also recovered from the possession of the accused, the SP claimed.
In another development, the Sadar Division police arrested an alleged motorcycle-lifter, Kashif Alias Kashi, and recovered two motorcycles from his possession.
The SP further claimed that the police had arrested three members of the Zamir Suniara “gang of dacoits” from Sabzazar area and recovered two motorcycles, two pistols, a Mouser and ammunition from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Zamir Ahmad Suniara, Mohammad Sajid and Mohammad Waseem.
Meanwhile, the Cantonment Division police claimed that they had busted two gangs of swindlers and recovered looted property and illegal arms from their possession.
The Mughalpura police busted a gang comprising ringleader Ghulam Hussain, Mohammad Bashir, Fazlur Rehman and Mohammad Hanif.
A number of cases were registered in the Mughalpura Police Station against the accused, who allegedly confessed to 13 crimes during the course of investigation. The gang had been operating for the last many years in Data Sahib, Bilal Ganj, Railway Station, Shah Alami Market and Shahdara areas.
A pistol, a carbine and two revolvers were recovered from their possession, according to the police.
The Ghaziabad police busted a gang comprising ringleader Nasir Pervaiz of Begumpura and Mohammad Sikandar. A motorcycle (LRB-1198) and looted money were recovered from their possession, the police claimed.
The two men allegedly confessed to 18 crimes. This gang had been operating in Kutcheri, Singhpura, Mayo Hospital and Railway Station areas.—APP
