KARACHI, April 13: At least two government primary schools for boys and girls are working in a building constructed on a plot located under the high-tension electricity wires, carrying 11KV supply for the Karachi airport.

The Feroze Islamia primary school and government primary school Adam Hingoro goth are located on this plot near the Post Office at H. Area in Khokhrapar.

According to experts, such a type of environment for a long duration is quite harmful for people and must be avoided.

At present, classes are being held regularly at these two schools and at least half a dozen rooms have been built in two separate blocks.

The school-building was constructed by a former MQM MNA, Waseem Ahmed, who later defected and joined the MQM Haqiqi.

The plot is located near the house of the ex-MNA. An illegal vegetable and meat market existed here prior to the construction of the school buildings.

The area people said that the MNA wanted to remove the nuisance (presence of pushcarts and hawkers) in front of his house and, instead of inviting proposals from area elders about how to utilize the plot, he sought funds under the MNA scheme and opted for the construction of a building for schools.

The area people said that the place could have been utilized for a park instead of the schools.

The residents have urged the city Nazim to constitute a committee which should declare the status of the buildings to allay their fears about any side-effects on the health of children.

Meanwhile, another school near the Mohammadi Market is faced with the problem of encroachment on a portion of the school where about a dozen shops have been built by the land mafia.

The area people have urged the authorities to ensure removal of the encroachments.
