KARACHI: 35 development schemes under way


KARACHI, April 13: Secretary health department Sindh, Ashique Hussain Memon, has stressed upon the concerned authorities to pace up development projects of the health sector costing Rs480 million, so that the target areas could be provided best possible medical facilities.

This, he directed, while attending a briefing on development projects of the health Department under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) at the office of the additional secretary health (development).

Director General Health Services Sindh, Dr Qadir Bux Memon, Additional Secretary Health (Dev) Iqbal Dewan, and others attended the briefing.

The secretary health said that to provide maximum possible health facilities to common people was among the top priorities of the present government, therefore every official of the department had to work hard to achieve that goal.

The secretary health was informed that 35 development schemes costing Rs302.384 million were under way, and another 51 more schemes with a total cost of Rs177.616 million were being carried out through the district governments in the province.

As per briefing, the provincial level schemes include: construction of a nurses’ hostel in the Chandka Medical College Hospital Larkana at a total cost of Rs8.838 million; construction of the 3rd floor for operation theatre in orthopaedic unit-I with other repair works of the ward in the Civil Hospital Karachi costing Rs27.578 million; purchase of equipments and development of the neuro surgery and neurology department at the PMCH Nawabshah at the cost of Rs.5 million; up-gradation endoscopy facilities at the Sindh Government Hospital costing 11 million; construction of the 4th floor of new academic block at the SMC Karachi costing Rs.12.715 million; construction of autopsy room at the Dow Medical College Karachi costing Rs4.703 million. Up-gradation of taluka hospital of the province costing Rs37.149 million and establishment of an intestinal endoscopy department at the Civil Hospital costing Rs9.856 million.

The new schemes subject to the release of funds by the finance department are as under:

Up-gradation of existing facilities in the Civil Hospital costing Rs10.207 million; renovation of bathrooms in wards other repair works in the staff residence at the Civil Hospital costing Rs13.730 million; construction of a separate ICU at the PMCH Nawabshah costing Rs5.230 million; additional equipment to the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SUIT) costing Rs40 million; construction of a girls hostel for 250 students at the LMC Jamshoro costing Rs5 million; up-gradation of the CMC Larkana costing Rs5 million; the prevention and control of blindness programme in Sindh costing Rs4 million

The secretary expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in procedural formalities at various levels. He asked additional secretary (development), Iqbal Dewan, to hold enquiries and report on non-utilization of funds of Rs17 million allocated from the family health project.—APP
