NOWSHERA, April 12: The employees of the Nowshera city town staged a demonstration to protest against non-payment of salaries here on Saturday.

Two dejected employees, Rafique and Sarwar, wanted to commit suicide as a mark of protest by throwing themselves into river Kabul, but police prevented them.

Earlier, the Municipal Workers Federation held a meeting at the Shoobra Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, federation president Naseerullah Khan condemned the attitude of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government towards them, complaining that the district government had yet to pay previous month’s salaries to them due to non-availability of funds.

The leaders claimed that the ongoing “tug of war” between the district and provincial governments had created uncertainty among the employees.

They demanded of the president and the prime minister to take notice of the situation. They demanded of the government to ensure the payment of monthly salaries on time.

The employees then staged a sit-in on the road and took out the procession.
