TOBA TEK SINGH, April 11: The City Hospital, which was inaugurated by Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed on Thursday, remained closed on Friday.

Patients told newsmen that when they visited hospital, they were astonished to see that it was locked. There were no doctors or para-medical staff either, they added.

The brick column on which the plaque was installed, was also destroyed.

When contacted, a health department official said the hospital was set up hurriedly without getting sanction from the authorities concerned and the doctors seen on duty at the time of inauguration were temporarily brought here from DHQ Hospital.

Provincial Forest and Fisheries Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman had promised during his election campaign that a hospital would be set up in the old building of THQ Hospital because the DHQ Hospital was four kilometres away from the town and was not easily approachable for the emergency patients. The building which was in the use of district health officer was vacated for the purpose.
