PESHAWAR, April 10: Provincial authorities have constantly been ignoring the directives issued by the NWFP governor’s secretariat for the release of compensation money to a resident of Haripur, Syed Akbar Ali Shah.
Mr Akbar’s family had to move out of their two-kanal house after it became unsafe as a result of the concerned authorities’ negligence to construct a protection wall against frequent landslide.
According to official record, in a letter dated Jan 15, the NWFP chief secretary was conveyed the governor’s desire to disburse within three days Rs618,626 in compensation to Mr Akbar. Mr Akbar is running from pillar to post to get the compensation.
A letter sent by the governor’s secretariat to the chief secretary on March 11 read: “As stated earlier vide this secretariat’s letter dated January 15, 2003, that the damage caused to the property of the applicant is not due to any sudden natural calamity, but it was due to gradual erosion of cliff within sixteen years for which the irrigation department, NWFP, could have adopted some precautionary measures, but they did not”.
