HYDERABAD, April 10: No fake property tax challans will be issued in the future and any excise official found guilty in this regard will be terminated, provincial minister for excise and taxation Abdur Rauf Siddiqui said on Thursday.
He was speaking at an unveiling ceremony of a book entitled ‘Sindh and Altaf’ written by a young Sindhi author Sajid Vistro.
Mr Siddiqui said that talks were under way with banks for directly depositing the property tax in banks, adding that a website would be prepared within a week to provide informa-tion about the excise department.
Expressing concern over the proliferation of narcotics, he directed officials of the excise department to launch a concerted operation against the drug dealers.
The minister further announced that the motor vehicle tax could be deposited in every district in the future.
Taking notice of reports about impounding of 100 vehicles in Johi, Mr Siddiqui instructed senior officials to conduct an inquiry in the matter.
He directed that defaulting vehicles should not be impounded from roads.
STPP: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Interior to issue a passport to Dr Qadir Magsi, chairman of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, within two weeks from the date of communication of the court order.
The court had allowed Dr Magsi to challenge such action in the appropriate proceedings.
Dr Magsi’s application for issuance of a passport was earlier rejected by the ministry of interior’s vide a memorandum dated Nov 3, 1998.
A representation was submitted to the ministry but to no avail.
