Inter-club chess

HYDERABAD, Aprirl 9: Hyderabad District Inter-Clubs Chess Championship began here at Liaquat Memorial High School Hyderabad Tuesday under the auspices of Hyderabad District Chess Association.

Roots Chess Club defeated Star Chess Club 5-1. Only Muhammed Ksahif of Star Club gained success against Mubariz of Roots Club.

In other matches, Hafiz-ur-Rehman of Roots Club defeated Suleman Bashir, Wahid H ussain has downed Ziauddin, Allauddin outwitted Muhammed Shoaib and Qasim Ali humbled Muhammed Rehan while Tahir Siddiqui got walk over against Aqueel.

In the second contest Challenger Club and Indus Club were involved in 3-3 draw. Faraz Ahmed of Indus upset Challenger’s Khalid Zafar while Indus Suleman Farroqui got the better of Fahim Khan and Shaikh Abdul edged out Murtaz Meo.

Saleem Khan and Ahsan Khan of Challenger Club have defeated their opponents Rashid Hussain and Muhibullah Shaikh. At the end of first round, Roots Chess Club was leading with five points, Challenger and Indus were joint second with three each points while Star Chess Club was at the bottom with one point.—APP
