QUETTA, April 9: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has condemned the killing of innocent women in tribal feuds and termed it against the customs and traditions.
A meeting of the provincial chapter of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan was held on Wednesday, which was presided over by its vice-chairman Malik Zahoor Ahmed Shahwani.
The meeting said that more than 30 people had been killed in tribal clashes during the past one month at the confluence of Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
“Woman killing in tribal gun battle is a violation of human rights and humanity,” the meeting observed and deplored such incidents in different parts of the province.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan provincial chapter accused the government of patronizing tribal feuds arguing that the state had all powers, but could not do anything to stop them.
About the minorities’ affairs the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan expressed concern over not bringing to task those accused who were involved in the killing of four Hindu traders in Gandhawa area of Balochistan.
Discussing the new local bodies system, the meeting observed that to the day the women councillors were not properly informed of their powers and deplored the attitude of the men councillors towards them.
The meeting also expressed its dismay over the interference of the provincial ministers and government officials in the powers of district, tehsil and union council Nazims, and demanded that the government should take steps for ensuring smooth functioning of the local government system and save it from total collapse.
The US-led coalition’s invasion of Iraq was denounced and described an open terrorism and necked aggression against the innocent people of Iraq.
“Thousands of innocent women and children die every day in the hospitals of Iraq due to shortage of medicines and food,” the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan meeting observed.
The meeting also strongly criticized the role of United Nations. “United Nations is playing the role of a silence spectator,” the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan members said, and demanded an immediate halt to the Iraq war.
