Over 2,800 to get admission to model colleges

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 9: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has offered as many as 2,850 seats for admissions in class I which are being filled through a centralized admission test.

This was stated by FDE officials on Wednesday during a visit of newsmen to the Islamabad Model College for Girls, F-10/2, and Islamabad Model College for Boys, G-10/4, the two examination centres for girls and boys, respectively.

The FDE officials said, for admissions in 10 model colleges for boys, they received around 1,634 applications, of which 44 were rejected owing to over-age and lack of proof that the applicants were permanent resident of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Therefore, 1,590 boys will appear for the admission test. The FDE has created same number of seats in both morning and evening shifts for boys.

The FDE training coordinator, Prof Tahir Rafique, said: “This year we will make it sure that anyone who clears his admission test should get admission”.

There are eight model colleges for girls in the capital and total seats both in the morning and evening shifts for girl students are 1,260.

Interestingly, the number of girls applicants are 1,238 that means an applicant has to get 20 marks out of the total 50 marks and she will be granted admission.

Answering a question, Mr Rafique said FDE had made arrangements that every child living in the limits of ICT should be offered admission in class I provided she/he fulfils the criteria.

Commenting on the test pattern, he said the test comprised five subjects— 10 mark each for mathematics, English, Urdu, general knowledge and viva voice.

The admission centres have been decorated with paintings to give the centres a child-friendly look.

The IMCG, F-10/2, principal, Shaista Pirzada, briefed the newsmen on the arrangements for the centralized admission test.

In the second examination centre for boys, the IMCB, G-10/4, principal, Prof Anwar, said the admission test arrangements were perfect and there wasn’t any interference from any corner.

Mr Rafique told the mediamen that the FDE had asked for the permission of Punjab University to start BCS Computer science classes from October in the IMCG, F-10/2, and IMCB, G-10/4.
