11 die in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, April 8: At least 11 people were killed in fresh violence in occupied Kashmir, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

The two boys were killed on Monday night when they stepped on an abandoned explosive device in the Poonch district, police said.

Indian forces claimed killing four militants in three separate encounters in the Rajouri, Poonch and Kupwara districts.

A spokesman said one of the slain was a member of the Lashkar-i-Taiba.

Police said militants also shot dead Tariq Ahmed, alias Billa, a former member of the Hizbul Mujahideen in Srinagar.

A 50-year-old woman was killed and her son injured when they got caught in the crossfire of a battle between militants and Indian forces on Tuesday near Surankot, police said.

Another man was gunned down in Udhampur, police said.—AFP
