NEW DELHI, April 5: Indian External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha has said that not talking to Pakistan was an effective policy and described a recent advice by the United and Britain to resume a dialogue as insensitive.
According to excerpts of his remarks in a discussion on an Indian TV channel made available on Saturday, Mr Sinha said that the demand by the two countries was particularly “insensitive” in the wake of a massacre of 24 Kashmiri Hindus in Nadimarg by alleged terrorists.
“It was clearly insensitive,” Mr Sinha told ITV’s Court Martial programme.
“We have tried to explain to them as clearly and as often as possible....but would agree that I don’t think they understand it hundred per cent. They understand most of it.
He said: “The difference in point of view is with regard to the dialogue. We have said clearly to them that cross-border terrorism and dialogue cannot go on simultaneously...first cross- border terrorism has to stop before a climate for dialogue is created.”
