ISLAMABAD, April 4: A constitutional amendment to include China as a guest participant in the 9th SAF Games may be on the cards when the South Asian Sports Federation (SASF) meets here on April 10-11.
“China or for that matter any other Asian country may be included as guest participant to impart more glamour to biennial SAF Games”, according to quite a few officials of SAF Games Secretariat.
SASF is scheduled to decide on the fate of the thrice-postponed SAF Games when its executive committee meets here in the aftermath of March 21 decision by the Pakistan government to cancel the SAF Games in the wake of war in Iraq.
“All the member countries of SASF, with the exception of India, have confirmed of participation in this meeting”, said media manager of 9th SAF Games Organising Committee, Maj. Yahya Ghaznavi.
“The delegates to the meeting are expected to start arriving in the Pakistan capital tentatively from April 7”, he said.
The meeting is likely to favour temporarily shifting the Games to the next hosts Sri Lanka, the officials said, emphasising that five countries could affect a change in the constitution of SASF.— APP
