Doctor killed in Karachi

KARACHI, April 4: A child specialist was shot dead at his clinic in New Karachi on Friday.

Police said two men on a motorcycle came to the clinic near Millat-i-Usmania mosque in New Karachi, shot dead Dr Mohammad Nazeer, 38, and sped away.

Dr Nazeer, father of five, was resident of the same vicinity and served as child specialist in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Town Police Officer Ahmed Khan Jamali said: “It was a target killing.” He said the affiliation of Dr Nazeer with any religious party or group could not be ascertained immediately.

Police sources said there were two doctors in the locality and a group of youth had threatened them to leave the area or face dire consequences. One of them left the place but Dr Nazeer had not closed his clinic.

INFANT DIES: An infant died and her parents and a sister were injured when the roof of their house caved in on Friday night in a shanty town of Paposh Nagar, Nazimabad.

Police said the deceased, Nimra, was one-and-a-half year old. Ansar Mehmood, his wife, Bushra, and daughter, Madiha, were injured. The body and the injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
