Players will burn out: Kapil
NEW DELHI, April 3: Notwithstanding John Wright’s reappointment as India’s coach for tri-nation cricket series in Bangladesh, Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century Kapil Dev praised Sandeep Patil, a member of his 1983 World Cup winning team, as a “remarkable coach.”
“I am happy with Sandeep. He has done a remarkably good job with the Kenyan team. Earlier, we used to import coaches. But now we are exporting them too,” Kapil told newsmen.
Indian World Cup winning captain said, “coaching is a very crucial and technical job. Cricket board must know who fits in the role most.”
He, however, was quick to evade obvious reference on whether he would like to take up coaching job again.
Expressing anxiety over tight international schedule of Indian cricketers, he warned that too much cricket would take a toll on players. “Too much cricket will definitely take a toll on players.”
There should have been a one-month break after the World Cup. The players should be allowed to go back to their families and spend some time with them.”
On induction of four new faces in Indian team for coming tri-nation series in Bangladesh, Kapil said “it is good that new boys will get a chance to deliver.”
Opener Gautam Gambhir, paceman Avishkar Salvi, leggie Amit Mishra, off-spinner Sarandeep Singh and middle-order batsman Abhijit Kale are new faces in Indian team.—PPI
