FAISALABAD, April 3: A session of the tehsil council was prorogued by the Speaker when pandemonium broke out in the house here on Thursday.
When Speaker Mohammad Ilyas Ansari tabled the agenda, around a dozen women councillors stood on points of order and started talking about “misdeeds” of TMA.
In the meantime, a group of councillors belonging to the Opposition also stood up to voice their objections to a variety of affairs. They alleged that the Tehsil Nazim had got the Tehsil Municipal Officer issue a notification barring the councillors from visiting the TMA offices. They claimed that the order was not only insulting, it was a conspiracy aimed at concealing the “crimes” of the local government.
They blamed the city Nazim for ignoring the recommendations of councillors in formulation of policies.
The women councillors claimed that despite the instructions of the chief minister, the matter of awarding them financial assistance was still in cold storage.
The members of the house also refused to listen to the speech of City Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema. The Nazim addressed the house for a couple of minutes and highlighted some of his policies.
However, the situation went out of control when a group of lady councillors from the Treasury benches stood up and started raising slogans in favour of the Nazim. The groups of women councillors belonging to the Treasury and the Opposition started quarrelling and misbehaving with each other. They also used objectionable words for each other, forcing the Speaker to prorogue the session.
It may be noted here that pandemonium routinely breaks out in the tehsil council, allegedly due to the negligence of the Speaker, Nazim and other TMA officers, who have failed to provide proper guidelines to the members about their duties and the house decorum.
