LAHORE, April 3: A Punjab Institute of Mental Health contractor was arrested on Thursday for supplying sub-standard meat for consumption of the patients.

City District Government Food Security Department Dr. Ezaz Anjum caught the contractor when he was delivering the inferior quality meat at the institute. The meat was confiscated and destroyed and a case was got registered against the contractor at the Shadman police station.

The Punjab Institute of Mental Health authorities had lodged a complaint with the CDG Food Security Department that the contractor was not supplying quality meat.

Investigations revealed that the contractor was supplying the meat of old animals instead of young ones against the terms of the contract. Moreover he was bringing the meat from Sheikhupura instead of the provincial metropolis abattoir.

Meanwhile, the City District Government Food Squad raided on Thursday a spurious soft drinks factory at Bhatti Colony near the Kot Lakhpat Jail and seized a large quantity of bottles of different popular brands.

The Food Squad booked factory owners Arshad and Liaquat for production of spurious soft drinks and forwarded the case to the Nishtar Town Food Magistrate for trial under the provisions of the Pure Food Ordinance.
