AS SALIYAH (Qatar), April 2: US forces freed a prisoner of war during a rescue operation in Iraq, US Central Command announced on Tuesday.

General Vincent Brooks read a simple statement indicating that the prisoner was freed during “a successful rescue operation” and taken back to an area under coalition control.

Seven Americans have been taken prisoner since the start of the war in Iraq, according to the Pentagon. —AFP
